Fixing my Sewing Disaster

So, I thought I'd make a quick top yesterday. Cashmerette Montrose   I've made a few of these, they are comfy and go together quickly. The pattern fits me and so there would be no time spent on fitting. I've had this striped knit fabric in my stash for a few years, but only a yard of it. Just enough to make the front and back but not sleeves. I auditioned various fabrics for the sleeves and nothing working until ... the red lacy fabric. Not really lace, but VERY open. Here you can see it with the striped fabric But all that lacy openness presented a problem. A problem which I'm sure you've already guessed. How to cut the notch's or mark the sleeve center?  Tailor tacks were my answer. Even that wasn't easy, as there was nothing to 'tack to'. I used some candlewicking thread  and tied a bow around the two back sleeve notches. I tied a regular knot (loosely) around the center mark and the front sleeve notch.  It worked v...

The Sewing Fuddles

Is it just me or do you ever do this? I want to sew. I have stacks of fabric and trims and patterns and notions and tools. But everything I pull - just doesn't seem to work. I have a list of patterns I want to make and the fabrics to make them. But when I pull out the fabric, I'm just not excited about it. So, I do things like sort the bias tape, and clean up the trims box. And it's nice to have something organized but it's not sewing.  I decided to make some doll clothes for my AG doll. I only got so far before running into a snag - no zipper for the dress. Which sounds ridiculous considering I have a plastic tub FULL of zippers. All I need is a white, 7" invisible zipper.
