The Sewing Fuddles

Is it just me or do you ever do this? I want to sew. I have stacks of fabric and trims and patterns and notions and tools. But everything I pull - just doesn't seem to work. I have a list of patterns I want to make and the fabrics to make them. But when I pull out the fabric, I'm just not excited about it.

So, I do things like sort the bias tape, and clean up the trims box. And it's nice to have something organized but it's not sewing. 

I decided to make some doll clothes for my AG doll. I only got so far before running into a snag - no zipper for the dress. Which sounds ridiculous considering I have a plastic tub FULL of zippers. All I need is a white, 7" invisible zipper. I have everything but.

Here's my plan. My list of patterns I want to make (in no particular order) - 

Seamwork 3088 "Ariel" - I made this dress on the day the July issue of Seamwork came out. Super simple to sew and it looks good. 


Seamwork 3087 "Lucy" - I'm not really into jumpsuits, but I do want a pair of wide-leg pants. Either long or short as pictured. 


McCalls 7564 - I'd love to find a border print for this.


Kwik Sew 4073 - I like to wear this kind of jumper in the winter, with some kind of a long sleeve shirt and tights. 
Kwik Sew 6262 - a pair of jammie pants

Kwik Sew 4199 - I love flared skirts.  I will probably change the drape front of this cardigan, cause as is - it just seems like a lot of fabric to carry around. 

Butterick 5861 - I like the tuck details of this shirt.
Kwik Sew 3824 - Here's that flared skirt again, although I'd probably make it shorter. And I like the vest, but I'd want to change the lapels to a shawl collar. I'll try it anyway.
Today, I am planning to work on the Lucy wide leg pants. If I can find the right fabric that is. :/ What's your plan?

Fixing my Sewing Disaster

So, I thought I'd make a quick top yesterday. Cashmerette Montrose   I've made a few of these, they are comfy and go together quickly. The pattern fits me and so there would be no time spent on fitting. I've had this striped knit fabric in my stash for a few years, but only a yard of it. Just enough to make the front and back but not sleeves. I auditioned various fabrics for the sleeves and nothing working until ... the red lacy fabric. Not really lace, but VERY open. Here you can see it with the striped fabric But all that lacy openness presented a problem. A problem which I'm sure you've already guessed. How to cut the notch's or mark the sleeve center?  Tailor tacks were my answer. Even that wasn't easy, as there was nothing to 'tack to'. Saving a Dime

Here in California, if you don't bring your own shopping bags to the store - they charge you a dime for each bag you use. The smart thing to do is bring your own bags! This dime law has been in effect for a year and a half now. We knew it was coming. I even bought fabric to make my own grocery bags before the first year started! I'm finally sewing them. The Plan - Fabric:100% Poly Water Repellent Canvas Purchased from Fabric Mart : 4 yards at $2.70 a yard, 60" wide Saturday (June 23) I decided it was time to sew grocery bags. Pinterest was waiting with a zillion ideas for me, but our internet was out! OMG - create a bag myself? I guess so. To avoid wasting my fabric, I made a paper mockup of 'my bag'. I guessed at some measurements, cut it out of tissue paper and stapled it together. It was too small, so I added inches to the sides and top and then cut fabric. I just want a simple yet strong bag. Do you like Mystery Quilts?

I haven't been sewing much lately. Moving the sewing room makes it hard to think of the new sewing room as home . Does anyone else feel like this? However! 😀 In January I will be offering a Mystery Quilt. Suitable for quilters of all levels of expertise. So, there will be sewing in this new sewing room after all. I'll make the sacrifice for you! I just pulled fabrics from my stash. Nothing fancy is required.
